THE 2002 TREK FUEJUNE 26

MBA was visited by Treks’ honches last week. They gave us a sneak peak of some 2002 tidbits. Dual-suspension Fuel

Hexcell Corporation, a global leader in reinforced composites, has developed moldable carbon fiber, a liquid material that enables the introduction of new technology. This secret stuff is the first time a new composite concept has been tested in the bike industry before it is brought to the aerospace and space industries. Trek will create the fuel rocker links

The stuff is almost twice as strong as the old forged aluminum rockers, and it weighs almost 60 grams less than the other side.

A carbon fiber chainstay is another composite addition to Fuel. Previously,

Only the Fuels seatstays had a segment of bonded carbon fiber tube. The Fuels rear wheel travel is still three inches, and the geometry of its wheels remains the same. Treks 2002 RockShox SID Race Fork is a unique item that very few people have ever seen.

The SID Race last year was extremely lightweight but it did not compromise the essential features like lockouts, rebound controls, and suspension travel. The Climb-it control valve is now available on the new Race.

Lockout function, three inches travel and a rebound clicker. RockShox’s flagship fork is, as usual, the most attractive on the pro circuit. These legs are too cool for the 2002 model, which is made of titanium nitride-plated gold.

Two models will feature the liquid carbon link technology, while another pair of Fuels for trailbikes will have the forged aluminum links. Trek promised to send one of the 2002 Fuel production samples for us to test. We will see you there.
